The Skyliners and Team Braemar will represent the U.S. as they take the ice for the short program at the 2011 Junior World Challenge Cup tomorrow night in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The teams placed first and second respectively in Fond Du Lac, Wis., at the junior world qualifier event in January, earning them a spot on the world team.
This marks the second year in a row that Team Braemar and the Skyliners will appear at worlds. Last year, Team Braemar placed fourth at the competition and the Skyliners placed fifth. Although both teams placed well at the 2010 competition, their combined placements did not exceed the 2007 junior world teams’ placements in England where The Chicago Jazz placed third and The Colonials placed fifth overall.
Both Team Braemar and the Skyliners competed at the 2011 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in Ontario, Calif. last week. The Skyliners placed first with a total score of 190.85 and Team Braemar placed second with a total score of 178.75.
Both teams from Finland, Team Fintastic and The Musketeers, as well as Nexxice and Les Supremes from Canada will pose the biggest threat to Team USA. Team Fintastic took first at the 2010 Junior World Challenge Cup.
