More than 30 teams competed in nine divisions in the first major East coast competition of the season at the 2013 Thanksgiving Synchronized Skating Classic in Kingston, Mass. The New England Sectional Monitoring Session took place in conjunction with the competition.
Eight teams competed in the Intermediate division. The Skyliners took first place in the division with a total score of 41.59. The team has consistently placed first in the division at the competition since 2010 with the exception of the 2012 competition where they placed third. The division was particularly competitive this year as the teams that placed second through sixth placed within 1.5 points of each other. Team Delaware, Team Excel and Synchroettes all earned medals.
The Skyliners, Synchroettes and Team Delaware competed in the junior division. Each team competed its short program, but only the Skyliners and Synchroettes competed the long program. Skyliners placed first in each competition, earning a total of 117.02. The Synchroettes placed second in the short with a score of 38.00– just two points behind the Skyliners. The team also placed second in the long program with a score of 72.88. The Synchroettes placed similarly at last year’s competition but placed third in the short behind the Lexettes, who did not make an appearance this year.
The number of teams competing in the juvenile division doubled this year. The Skyliners took first place. The team has consistently improved in the division over the past several years. The team earned third in 2010, second in 2011 and first in 2012. Hayden’s Mini Mates, Team Delaware and Synchroettes earned second, third and fourth place respectively in this year’s competition.
The Skyliners placed first in every division it entered with the exception of the novice and preliminary divisions. The Synchroettes placed first in the novice division this year with a score of 47.85. The Skyliners placed second less than a point behind and earned a score of 46.93. The Synchroettes also placed first in the preliminary division. The Skyliners placed second and Team Winterettes placed third.
Six teams competed in the pre-juvenile division. The Skyliners placed first and earned 1s from all of the judges on the panel. Team Esprit, The Colonials and Philadelphia Symmetry earned second, third, and fourth place respectively.
The Catamount Blades of the University of Vermont traveled to the competition this year and was the only team that competed in the open collegiate division. The open juvenile division also had one competitor—the Munchkins from Warwick FSC. There were no teams that competed in the Collegiate or the senior divisions.
