The Pilgrim Skating Club hosted another successful Thanksgiving Classic this weekend as teams from all over the East Coast traveled to Plymouth, Massachusetts to compete in the first event of the season.
Out of the six intermediate teams present, the Skyliners won the division with 45.46 points. Close behind them was Team Excel (42.15), the Synchroettes (41.03), and Team Delaware (38.99). In open juvenile, Team Winterettes took home the gold, Central Park Ice the silver, and Team Delaware the bronze.
The junior division, though small, was exciting. Team Delaware beat the Synchroettes in the short program by 2.13 points with a score of 34.19 — a remarkably different scenario from last year’s competition when the team scored 10 points above Delaware in the short. After the long program this past weekend, the Synchroettes took the lead and the gold medal.
The Skyliners’ novice line also won first place with a score of 52.49, 1.49 points above the second place team, Team Delaware. The Synchroettes placed third with a score of 45.43, and the Chesapeake Sailors took fourth place with a score of 43.41.
The Skyliners placed first in all six divisions it entered, including Beginner 1, preliminary, and pre-juvenile. In the juvenile division, the Skyliners defended its title with a unanimous panel behind them. Mini Mates, the juvenile team out of Hayden Recreation Center, placed second, Synchroettes third, and Team Delaware fourth.
There was only one open collegiate team, the Liberty University Flames. No adult, collegiate, or senior teams competed this weekend.
