Nearly 90 teams competed this weekend in Fraser, Mich. at the 2015 Mid-America Championships.
Saturday’s competition began with the beginner division. The Crystallettes and Evolution won their beginner 1 groups with a 4/1 majority, and the Ice Diamonds and Ilderton Blue Jets won their beginner 2 groups.
Following the beginner groups was the junior short program. Miami University, skating to a “Jock Jams Megamix”, won the gold with 44.44 points. The Crystallettes earned second place with 36.18 skating to Burlesque. Miami also won the long program, skating to Aladdin and earning 76.86 points. The Crystallettes scored 75.36 and skated to to Malagueña.
The open juvenile teams had a tough competition with a total of 10 teams competing. Allegro! came out on top with a 4/1 majority. Hockettes claimed the silver medal, the Oxford Ice Crystals earned third, and Evolution earned fourth place.
In the senior division, Adrian College claimed first place in the short and long program. Their Celine Dion short program earned 40.27 points. They skated to the Little Mermaid in the long and earned 84.01 points. Western Michigan University came in second, earning 36.88 in their Piano Concerto short program and 76.38 in their techno-themed long program.
The preliminary division champions were the Kalamazoo Kinetics with a 3/1 majority. The Crystallettes skated to second place. Evolution earned third and Allegro! finished in fourth place.
The Ilderton Silver Jets of Canada claimed the gold medal in the intermediate event with 55.90 points. The Crystallettes claimed second place with 54.66 and the Ice Diamonds grabbed the bronze medal with 52.69. In fourth place was Creative Edge with a score of 43.46.
The gold medalists in the novice event were the Crystallettes who skated to a Hocus Pocus theme and scored 64.24 points. The Hockettes came in second with a score of 55.35. The Ilderton Precisionnaires scored 50.26, and Cleveland Edges earned 42.31 for the pewter medal.
The Crystallettes juvenile team earned the gold medal with a 5/1 majority and a circus themed program. Allegro! claimed the silver medal.
Miami University skated to “Nine” in the collegiate division and won the gold medal with 72.46 points. The University of Delaware’s Beyoncé program earned 69.21 and the silver medal. University of Michigan claimed the bronze with 65.83, and Western Michigan University scored 65.10 and earned the pewter medal.
Miami University also won in the open collegiate division. Skating to second place was the University of Minnesota. Grand Valley State claimed the bronze medal. Ohio University earned the pewter medal. In their USFSA debut, the University of Missouri skated to fifth place, and Liberty University rounded out the group in sixth.
Allegro! claimed gold in the first pre juvenile group. The Hockettes earned a silver medal. Following them were the Cleveland Edges Ice Geminis and the Ice Diamonds in third and fourth, respectively. In the second pre juvenile group, the Cleveland Gold Tigers won with a 4/1 majority. The Ilderton Mini Jets claimed silver, Evolution skated to third, and the Crystallettes earned a pewter medal.
The Crystallettes earned a gold medal in the adult division with a score of 56.94. The Ilderton Classic Jets came in first place in the open adult 1 event followed by Eclipse in second, Phoenix in third, and Buckeye SS in fourth. Turning Points won gold in the open adult 2 group. Hot Flashes earned second place.
Allegro! won gold in both the masters and open masters divisions. Ice Connect earned the silver medal in masters, and Lake Effect Flurries came in second in the open masters event.
