ICE’Kateers Senior Team USA
Wednesday started off with our first taste of Scottish breakfast, fit with beans and tea. We got ready for practice and because the weather was so beautiful, we opted to walk to the rink. Our route took us along a beautiful river and lots of green grass, an awesome contrast from drought-stricken Southern California. We warmed up outside and cheered on Team Del Sol as they finished up their practice. Our practice started out stressful as we worked to fit lifts on a much shorter rink. However, once we worked out the kinks and adjusted, practice went great. We felt strong, powerful, and as fast as the little birdie flying among the rafters of the arena. After practice, we changed and headed to the local Caerlaverock Castle. The setting sun, rolling hills, and ancient rocks made a perfect setting for lots of smiles and pictures. After some rest and homework time back at the hotel, Team USA had dinner together with our supportive team leaders. It was so fun to meet, interact, and eat with our USA teammates. With full stomachs and warm hearts, we slowly drifted off to bed with thoughts of clean runs swirling through our heads.
Thursday’s adventure began with breakfast and practice. Our little rink birdie decided he wanted to join us on the ice and he definitely made everyone laugh when he started slipping and sliding right in front of our block. In the end, we felt even better than Wednesday and we earned our first team gold star from Coach Kathi for a job well done. To satisfy our starving stomachs we headed to the Polka Dot Tearoom for tea, finger sandwiches, and treats. We ended the night going to the opening ceremonies and drew first for short program! We’re excited for tomorrow!
