On Sunday, November 12th, the Glacier Falls Figure Skating Club will host the 2017 Anaheim ICE Synchronized Fall Classic. This is one of the first competitions of the season, and many teams will be putting out their programs for the first time.
Since it is a one day competition, it will surely be a jam packed Sunday! The event kicks off with the juvenile division, starting at 9:05 am. Both new to the juvenile division, Team Del Sol and Park City Icing will be making their debut this weekend.
The next division will be junior short event, which will be a fierce competition. Last year’s junior national champions and fourth place finishers at the 2017 Junior World Synchronized Skating Championships, Skyliners, are looking for the top spot as well as Lexettes, the 2017 junior national silver medalists and junior world team member. Starlights and Hockettes, who both finished in the top five at nationals last season and will be competing at two internationals later this season, will be making a strong debut. Team Delaware is looking to get into the mix as well after placing second with 35.36 points at the Philadelphia Synchro Invitational in October. The junior free skate will take place later in the day at 2:48 pm.
Next, the California natives, California Gold will kick off the senior division. Crystallettes, Skyliners, and Miami University will be looking to take home the gold this weekend coming off of a national silver, bronze, and pewter medal respectively. The senior free skate will start at 1:48 pm.
The second largest event at this competition is the pre-juvenile division, consisting of nine teams. San Diego Shining Blades, the pre-juvenile pacific coast sectional champions, are looking to make a strong showing as well as Tremors of San Francisco, who came in third this past January. California Gold, Fusion, Matrix Synchronized Skating, Rose City Crystals, Silver Stars, Star Lit Blades, and Washington Ice Emeralds will also be competing.
The open juvenile division will be consisting of 13 teams – certainly not an event to miss. San Diego Shining Blades, winners of the event last year and the pacific coast sectional championships, will be competing this weekend along with Silver Stars and Washington Ice Emeralds, who also landed on the podium at those two events. Denver Synchronicity, Epic Edge, Fire Crystals, Ice-Cadettes, Matrix SST, Rose City Crystals, Star Lit Blades, Tremors of San Francisco, Utah Silver Stars, and Team ParadICE will also be competing.
The Mini Ice Cadettes will be competing in the Snow Plow Sam event at 1:43 pm. Denver Synchronicity, coming off of a fifth place finish at nationals, will be competing in the masters division this weekend. In the synchro skills 2 event, Tremors will be competing. Denver Synchronicity will be the only team competing in the adult division this competition.
Eight teams will be competing in the intermediate division. Team Del Sol, the intermediate national pewter medalists, are expected to make a strong showing as well as Fusion and Denver Synchronicity who placed in the top ten at nationals. Star Lit Blades, Tremors, California Edge, California Gold, and Matrix SST will also be competing. California Gold synchro skills 1 will close out the competition.
It will surely be an exciting day at the Anaheim ICE Fall Synchronized Classic. Be sure to follow Get It Called on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for results and information! Follow @GIC_results on Twitter for live updates at #AnaheimSynchro17!
