On Sunday, November 6th the Glacier Falls Figure Skating Club will host the 2016 Anaheim ICE Synchronized Fall Classic. This will be one of the first competitions of the season, and many teams will be putting out their programs for the first time.
As it is a one day competition, it will surely be a jam packed Sunday! The event kicks off with many local ISI teams, then transitions into the first IJS division of the competition with the junior short program beginning at 11:20 am. The Silver Stars and Team Delaware will be battling it out as returning competitors from last year’s competition. Team Delaware is coming off a strong 7th place finish at last season’s National Championships and are looking to make a strong debut this season. The Silver Stars, a local California team, are entering their second year in the division. The junior free skate will close the competition later in the day at 5:04 pm.
Next, the Tremors Of San Francisco will compete in the novice division, followed by Fusion competing in the juvenile division. Following this will be two flights of open juvenile teams. The division consists of many California teams including Rose City Ice Crystals, ICE’Kateers, Silver Stars, Ice Cadettes, California Gold, Star Lit Blades, Shining Blades, as well as the Washington Ice Emeralds from Washington state. This will surely be an event to watch as it is the largest group of the weekend! Following the open juvenile competition will be the Silver Stars preliminary team.
The senior division consists of California natives Team del Sol and California Gold. Team del Sol is coming off of a 7th place finish at the 2016 U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships and have been named to Team USA once again for the upcoming season.. California Gold took a brief hiatus from the senior division , but will be looking to make a big impression this weekend as their return. The senior free skate occurs later in the day, beginning at 4:48 pm.
Two groups of intermediate teams include the Rose City Ice Crystals, Denver Synchronicity, Star Lit Blades, California Edge, Fusion, Team del Sol, California Gold and The Rockers. Many of these teams are veterans to the division. In this group, Denver Synchronicity finished the highest at the 2016 U.S. National Championships with a score of 51.30, followed closely by Team del Sol with a score of 51.01. This will be the first competition of the season for all these teams.
It will surely be an exciting day at the Anaheim ICE Fall Synchronized Classic. Due to the date change of this year’s New England Challenge Cup, many teams who attended last year opted not to compete this year, resulting in fewer teams overall in the competition’s lineup. Despite the change, if you’re local in California, be sure to go support these synchronized skating teams!
