From December 9 through 11th the Bourne Skating Club will host the 22nd annual Cape Cod Synchronized Skating Classic. 102 teams will compete across 17 divisions during this jam-packed competition weekend.
Two flights of open juvenile kick off the competition Friday morning. In Group A, DC Edge Red and Team Excel are top contenders. DC Edge Blue and Mirror Images will be looking to claim the top spot in Group B.
Two groups of pre-juvenile are on the ice next. 2016 Eastern Sectional Champion DC Edge Red will look to claim the top spot in Group A. Other contenders here include DC Ede Blue, Team Ashburn, Synchroettes and Philadelphia Symmetry. In Group B, Colonials, Team Excel and Precisely Right will be looking for podium finishes.
First on the ice on Saturday will be the adult division. Coming off a first place finish at the Boston Classic with a score of 48.54 Esprit de Corps will be looking to claim the top spot once again. Team Excel and Colonials also hope to improve their scores from Boston. This will be Ocean Blades’ competitive debut for the season.
Eight juvenile teams will compete next. Mini Mates have posted the highest score of the division this season with a 46.01 at the Boston Classic. Other teams to watch here include Team Image, Philadelphia Symmetry and DC Edge.
Esprit de Corps masters and University of New Hampshire open collegiate will perform an exhibition before two junior teams take the ice for their short programs.
New to the junior division this season, Team Ashburn earned a 41.20 for their short at the Essex Synchro Classic and will be looking to improve upon this score. Canada’s Les Supremes will also be competing. After winning the 2016 Synchronized Skating Junior World Challenge Cup, the team is looking to make a strong competitive debut this season. Both teams will also compete their long programs Sunday.
On the ice next will be the senior short program, where four teams will compete. New to the division, Chesapeake Synchro will be making its competitive debut. With two competitions already under their belt this season, Haydenettes will be looking to improve upon previous scores. Competing for the first time this season, Canada’s Les Supremes will be looking to challenge Haydenettes for the top spot. Fresh off a 2nd place finish at the Dr. Porter with an overall score of 157.40, Miami University Senior Varsity will also be looking to challenge the top teams. Haydenettes, Miami University, and Les Supremes will compete the long program on Sunday.
Seven novice teams are on the ice next. Ice Mates, Team Image and Philadelphia Symmetry will all be looking to claim the top spot. Other podium contenders include DC Edge and Synchroettes.
After exhibition skates from Down Easters open adult and Colonials open masters, 13 intermediate teams will close out the competition on Saturday night.
After winning the Boston Classic with a score of 56.04, DC Edge hopes to finish on top in the intermediate division once again. Team Image, Star Mates and Philadelphia Symmetry are also top contenders here, having all posted scores in the 50s this season.
Kicking off the final day of competition, nine preliminary teams will be on the ice on Sunday morning. Teams to watch here include Synchroettes, Team Excel and DC Edge Blue.
Following the senior and junior free skate competitions, three collegiate teams will compete. After winning the Boston Classic with a score of 58.30, Metroettes Collegiate are prepared to challenge Boston University and the University of Massachusetts, both making their competitive debuts for the season.
Closing out the competition will be Synchro Skills 1, 2 and 3. Teams to watch in these divisions include DC Edge, Team Ashburn, Philadelphia Symmetry and Team Excel.
