From December 9 to 11th the Bourne Skating Club hosted the 22nd Annual Cape Cod Synchronized Skating Classic at the John Gallo Ice Arena. With 17 divisions of competition over a three day period it was an exciting and jam-packed weekend.
Friday afternoon kicked off with the open juvenile division. In Group A DC Edge Red claimed the top spot with a 5/1 majority. They were followed by Ice Illusion in second and Allegro! in third. DC Edge Blue won Group B with Mirror Images and CNY Blizzard claiming second and third.
DC Edge Red won pre-juvenile Group A with a 7/1 majority. Second place went to DC Edge Blue and Shooting Stars took third. In Group B Icing on the Cape finished first with Synchro Stars and CNY Storm rounding out the top three.
First on the ice on Saturday was the adult division. Skating to a remixed version of music from the Lion King, Esprit de Corps continued their winning streak with a score of 49.08. Second place went to The Colonials who scored a 44.86 with their Top Gun program. Team Excel claimed third with 43.79. Ocean Blades finished in fourth with 35.45.
Eight juvenile teams took the ice next. The top spot went to Mini Mates who scored 46.88. They were followed closely by DC Edge who claimed second with a score of 45.51. Philadelphia Symmetry landed in third with 41.02. Team Image rounded out the top four with 37.68.
After the juvenile competition Esprit de Corps masters and University of New Hampshire open collegiate exhibited their programs.
Canada’s Les Supremes junior won the short program with a score of 54.38. They were followed by Team Ashburn who scored 33.67. Both teams went on to compete their free skates on Sunday, where Les Supremes once again took the top spot with a score of 97.96. Team Ashburn earned 66.14 for its free skate.
In the senior short program, Haydenettes edged out Les Supremes for the top spot with a score of 62.71 to Canada’s 60.32. Miami University Senior Varsity finished in third with a 52.01. In their senior debut, Chesapeake Synchro finished fourth with a 31.68. During Sunday’s free skate Les Supremes took first with a score of 121.45. Haydenettes ended in second with a 106.75. Miami University ended in third with a 93.53. Chesapeake did not compete in the free skate.
Skating to music from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Ice Mates captured gold in the novice division with a score of 60.95. Second place went to DC Edge who scored 51.73 for their Wonderland program. Chesapeake Synchro finished in third with a 48.13. They were followed closely by Philadelphia Symmetry in fourth with a 46.46.
Following the novice division Down Easters open adult and Colonials open masters exhibited their programs.
Team Image claimed the top spot in the intermediate division with their energetic skate to music from Cirque de Soleil which earned them a 54.67. Star Mates ended in second with 52.25 for their Beauty and the Beast program. With a score of 51.70, DC Edge finished in third. Philadelphia Symmetry rounded out the top four with a 50.25.
Nine preliminary teams kicked off the final day of competition on Sunday. With an 8/1 majority, DC Edge Blue claimed the top spot. They were followed by Team Excel, DC Edge Red and Shooting Stars.
In the las IJS event of the competition, Meteorettes Collegiate took the top spot with a score of 68.69. They were followed by Boston University in second with a score of 42.49 and University of Massachusetts in third with a 39.95.
Closing out the competition were the synchro skills divisions. DC Edge took first place in both synchro skills 1 groups. CNY Chill claimed the top spot in synchro skills 2 Group A and Team Ashburn won Group B. DC Edge took first in synchro skills 3.
