This weekend over 150 teams competed at the 31st Annual Colonial Classic located at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass. The event started with the pre juvenile group A division on Friday evening and ended with beginner 3, which concluded late Sunday afternoon.
In the pre juvenile group A division, the Skyliners took gold and also received straight 1’s from the judges. DC Edge was the winners in the open juvenile group A event, receiving five first place marks from the judges. Synchroettes from the Essex Skate Club of New Jersey won the gold medal in the preliminary group A division.
The competition resumed Saturday morning with pre juvenile group B. The Shooting Stars, representing Hayden, took home the gold, followed by the National Blades which earned silver. DC Edge earned bronze and CNY Storm received the pewter medal. Next came the open juvenile group B division. Shadows came out on top.
The first IJS event was the novice division. Ice Mates won the gold medal with a score of 59.15 followed closely by the Skyliners, which earned a score of 57.73. Team Delaware earned a score of 56.60.
Following novice was the preliminary group B division. The Skyliners received first place, followed by the Shooting Stars. Beginner 1 groups A and B were the next events to take place.
The next IJS event was the intermediate division. This year the event had 15 teams and took nearly two hours to complete. DC Edge earned a score of 54.85, followed by Team Delaware with 53.19, Team Esprit with 51.10, and Skyliners with 50.76.
Beginner 1 Group C ended with a tie for 1st between Chesapeake First Mates and the Skyliners. The first Beginner 2 event of the competition started with Group A. The Saratoga Shining Stars came out on top, followed by Team Icicles in second, and Pittsfield Pinwheels in third.
The open juvenile event came next the competition with group C. Les Chatelaines were the gold medal winners for Group C. The Lexettes earned the junior short program gold medal with a score of 57.10, followed by the Synchroettes with a score of 43.30, and Team Delaware with 39.22.
Esprit de Corps came in first in the masters division, earning straight 1st place marks from the judges. Gotham City Synchro came in second place. The senior short program program concluded the event for Saturday. Miami University won first place with a score of 55.22 followed by the Haydenettes which earned a score of 51.48.
Sunday, the final day of the competition, started with the collegiate division. The only team to compete was the Chesapeake Captains, which earned a score of 50.90. Next up was the adult division. The Colonials took home the gold with a score of 53.71, followed by Esprit de Corps with a score of 50.44. juvenile was the next event to take the ice. Out of ten teams, Skyliners took home the gold, followed by Synchroettes, DC Edge, and Mini Mates.
With just a couple weeks away from their international assignment at the Mozart Cup, the Lexettes skated away with the gold medal, earning a total of 83.66 for their long program. In the senior long program, the Haydenettes earned a total of 114.22 and Miami University earned a total of 95.86.
In the open masters division DC Edge placed first, receiving six first place marks from the judges. In the open adult event, Gotham City Synchro brought home the gold, also receiving six first place marks.
Next came the last of the Beginner 2 teams with groups B, C, and D. Precisely Right – Teal won gold for group B, Precisely Right – Purple won for group C, and Icing on the Cape won for group D. The last event of the competition was beginner 3 where Synchro Stars won straight 1’s from the judges.
