The first competition of the new year will be the 2018 Colonial Classic, taking place Friday, January 5th to Sunday, January 7th. This is a highly anticipated event as it is many teams last competition before Eastern and Midwestern/Pacific Coast Sectionals. There will be 97 6.0 teams alone, ranging in level from synchro skills to open juvenile to masters and open collegiate. The competition has changed venues this year and is being held at the same arena as the 2012 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, the DCU Center in Worcester Massachusetts.
Starting off at 5 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, is group A of the preliminary division consisting of Team Excel, Philadelphia Symmetry, Skyliners, DC EDGE Red, Central Park Ice, Team Image, Synchroettes, and The Colonials. Following that is pre-juvenile group A, this group includes National Blades, CNY Storm, Synchroettes, Shimmers, Valley Forge Cadets, Saint Sensations, Team Image, IceLiners, Skyliners, Team Delaware, and DC EDGE Red.
Ending the day is the first of three open juvenile groups. Teams included in group A are CDNY Leading Edge, Shadows, Philadelphia Symmetry, DC EDGE Blue, CNY Blizzard, Valley Forge Cadets, Team Ashburn, and Starcatchers. Friday’s competition will be done at 7:45 pm.
Saturday will be the longest day of the three-day event with almost eleven hours of skating! Starting off at 11 am is pre-juvenile group B, with Shooting Stars, Richmond Synchro, Mirror Images, Team Esprit, Team Ashburn, DC EDGE Blue, Ice Lantics, CDNY Cutting Edge, The Starlings, and Starcatchers.
After pre-juvenile are three groups of synchro skills 1, Team Image Black, DC EDGE Red, The Colonials, and Skyliners are group A. Snowflurries, Ice Lantics, Team Image Pink, and Ice Gems makeup group B and group C includes Team Delaware, DC EDGE Blue.
Continuing into Saturday, we have the second flight of open juvenile starting at 1:30 pm. Group B consists of Superettes, Ice Illusion, Munchkins, Central Park Ice, The Colonials, Icing on the Cape, Team Excel, and Precisely Right.
Following is synchro skills 2, with CNY CHill, Sparklers, and Team Reflections Blue in group A. There will be a short break in the 6.0 competition for the Haydenettes to practice and for the novice division.
Picking up again at 4:34 pm, is group B of synchro skills 2, with DC Edge, Sprites, and Ice Liners. Ice Angels, Starcatchers, Icing on the Cape, and Team Reflections Red make up group C. Preliminary group B will begin at 5:12, this is flight is made up of Skyliners Pre, Team Ashburn, Snowflakes, Shooting Stars, Precisely Right, DC EDGE Blue, and Icicles.
Closing out the second day of competition is open juvenile group B, consisting of DC EDGE Red, Pittsfield Pinwheels, Island Waves, Sparklers, Synchro Stars, Ice Lantics, Team Rinx, Richmond Synchro. This flight will begin at 9:18 pm.
The competition will resume Sunday at 1:58, with the University of New Hampshire competing in the open collegiate division. Following is the master’s division, with The Colonials, Esprit de Corps, and Gotham City competing.
Open masters will begin at 2:24 with the DownEasters, The Colonials, and Precisely Right. The Cutting Edge and Team Reflections will be competing in the open adult division. The final group of synchro skills 2 beings at 3:05 pm with Mini Shooting Stars, Synchro Stars, Team Icicles, and Snowflurries. Ending the event is synchro skills 3 with Sparklers, Ice Liners, and DC EDGE.
