We’ve been hard at work preparing to compete this weekend. When we arrived in Gothenburg, we had a quick practice in order to get ourselves settled into our new atmosphere, and yes, we can confirm the rumor that Sweden is in fact extremely cold – the rink is the warmest place we’ve been all week! Even still, our tour of downtown Gothenburg was very interesting: we took a ferry across the Gothia River and got to admire the cityscape, and then we walked through the beautifully lit streets to a dinner with our team leader and coach.
So far our practices have been going great, and our hard work on the ice has been matched with our adventures off the ice. We are so honored to be here representing the United States of America at our first international competition of the season!
We started off our third day in Sweden with a vibrant bus ride filled with early Justin Bieber and High School Musical throwbacks. Pumped up from our jam session, we took the ice with an energy that translated into a productive early morning practice. After a quick rest, we returned to the rink to solidify the final touches on our programs.
The late afternoon gave us a chance to relax and decompress from what has been a busy week of practice and travel. Following the official draw, we were happy to join with our fellow Team USA members, the Haydenettes, and enjoy the competitor’s dinner hosted by the competition. A playful game of “guess the song” gave of us some good laughs and a way to lighten any pre-competition nerves.
Being surrounded by all the enthusiastic skaters at the dinner tonight got us feeling excited to compete the short program tomorrow. Combined with the confidence from our earlier practices, we are ready to put on a show and skate our first short program on the international stage.
