It was short program day at Mozart Cup today, and we had to wake up bright and early for our official practice. Official was a little rough – we did two back-to-back run throughs, and our elements were not as crisp as they normally are. But the imperfections of our practice gave us the push we needed to work even harder to fight our way back. We exited the rink knowing that we had to step up our game, keep focused, and trust in ourselves and each other.
After relaxing and getting motivated at our hotel, we returned to the rink for the short program competition. We understood that if we wanted to reach our goals of becoming a top team, we needed to show the world that we deserved it. Tonight, we had to take the ice with no fears, and leave the rink with no regrets.
And that, we did. Hitting the ending pose knowing that we skated clean was good, but knowing that we skated our hearts into every element was even better. Of course, we didn’t skate a perfect program, but we came fighting, which is what made us so happy about our skate tonight. We ended up in third place with 49.42 points, just 0.06 behind the second place team, Les Pirouettes from Canada. All of the teams skated so well tonight, and we are so proud of our Team USA friends, St. Louis Synergy, who scored 43.16, which placed them in fifth after the short. It is also so fantastic that all of the USA teams (both junior and senior) were able to finish in the top five after the short program here at Mozart Cup!
We are so excited we are to compete our long program tomorrow – we feel ready, motivated, and determined to take on the competition. LEX DO IT!
Gute Nacht, and Go USA!
