“Whatever you want in life, other people are going to want it too. Believe in yourself enough to accept the idea that you have an equal right to it.”- Diane Sawyer
Wow! What a day. We started off our day with another stellar breakfast; the highlight of our breakfast was carrot bread. After breakfast, we got ready for our short program official practice and then headed to the rink. We were excited to skate in the competition rink for the first time. During practice, we did one full run-through, followed by a few sections. After practice we felt really ready for the competition tonight.
We went back to the hotel to have lunch and video review. We had delicious sandwiches and sat around saucing good banter. European bread is undeniably the best! We then started to prepare for competition. Before leaving the hotel, we had our traditional team meeting in which we focused ourselves and reviewed our specific goals for the performance.
Even though the bus was ten minutes late, we made it to the warm up area on time. We met our team leader, Bob Bauer, there, and we did our regular competition warm up routines. Just as our luck would have it, we got to our locker room to find that someone was in it! Luckily, they were very apologetic, and we were able to quickly enter the locker room.
As we entered the ice, we could feel the energy in the rink. It was very cool to hear the USA cheers and to have our fellow Team USA teammates cheering for us in the stands. Once we hit our ending pose, we knew we had done our job. Our coach, Maikki, always tells us to own the stadium with our confidence, and tonight, it felt like it really paid off. We are so proud and pleased with the performance we had.
We then had the long program competition draw, in which we selected to skate 12th out of 12. Going into tomorrow’s competition, we know it is a new day, but we are feeling excited and confident to compete. We wish the best of luck to all teams!
