Day 2: Thursday
Our second day in Italy was full of memorable moments. We started off the morning with an unofficial practice at the competition rink. Our coaches and we were very happy with a strong practice. It was comforting and exciting to have so much great support — from our Team Leader at ice level with our coaches, and from our family in the stands. We are so thankful that everyone is here with us.
After practice, we ventured to Lake Como. As soon as we got off the bus, we stopped and simply stared at the still lake and snow capped mountains. Our favorite part of the excursion was a peaceful boat ride to a nearby town. While there, we walked around with family and friends and soaked up the scenery. There were lots of little shops with pastries, coffee, and our team favorite — gelato.
While in Lake Como, we stopped for an authentic Italian dinner. We ate different meats and cheeses, lasagna as the main course, and apple cake for dessert. There was a little language mixup when the server told us we were eating horse — but don’t worry, it wasn’t! We had a good laugh about that.
After a long but happy day, we went right to bed, ready to rest up for another day of practice, sightseeing, the draw, and a team dinner with our USA teammates from Miami University. More to come tomorrow!
