A full weekend of practice ended late Sunday afternoon in preparation for the 2017 Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria!
After a seven and a half hour plane ride from Newark, NJ to Munich, Germany, then a two hour bus ride to Salzburg, Austria, Skyliners Senior made it! It was a long day of travel, but it was worth the wait. When we got to the hotel, we checked in and got settled in our rooms before a light lunch.
After lunch, we had a little bit of time to shower and freshen up before heading to off ice with our coaches. We tightened up some loose ends from our practices this past weekend and get our legs underneath us before our first practice the next day. Off ice was followed by dinner at an amazing restaurant where we ate lots of schnitzel, spetzel, and gnocci. Most of the tables shared to get a little taste of everything and by the end we were all stuffed.
Our first day finished pretty quickly after dinner, as we were all exhausted from traveling and trying to fight off jet lag. A bedtime of 9:00pm was in all of our futures.
Day two started out with a bright and early 5:45am wake up call from our team manager/mom. We had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel featuring fresh fruit, croissants, and the most delicious meatballs we had ever tasted.
We headed to the rink before the sun came up and got straight into our warm-up. Getting on the ice in a different country was a new experience for a large portion of our team, but it felt like we were back in New York getting more work done (just with a more impressive view). We split our time up evenly with one hour for each program, where we perfected the technical side of each element.
After practice, we headed back to the hotel for lunch and some down time before our Sound of Music Tour. All of us enjoyed the views of Salzburg and famous places from the movie. We even sang a tune with our tour guide!
The evening of Day 2 commenced with a team dinner at another great restaurant and the Team USA meeting. It was awesome to see the rest of the US teams and get to know our team leaders for the week.
Good Luck to everyone competing this weekend and GO Team USA!
