We started the day off with a bright and early 5:45 wake up to head back to the rink in Gmunden. Before boarding the bus, we had a delicious buffet breakfast, including yogurt and many types of fruit. The watermelon was a huge highlight! Once we got to the rink, we did a quick warm up before getting on the ice. During our hour and a half practice session, we did run-throughs of both programs, and then we repeated sections in order to make them more competition ready.
After practice, we stopped in Mondsee to do some sightseeing. In addition to visiting the church that was featured in the wedding scene of The Sound of Music, we also stopped at a local café for some hot chocolate and apple strudel. It was great to interact with the energetic owner who appreciated our cheeky attempts at ordering in German. Later in the day, we took a nice walk into Old Town Salzburg. We had some free time to roam through the shops and get a bite to eat.
Tonight, we went out to eat at a local restaurant where we had some authentic Austrian cuisine. This included an assortment of chicken, pork, and fish. We were excited to try the wiener schnitzel, which is a famous Austrian dish.
At 7:15, our teammates Laura and Hanna attended the draw with our coach, Maikki Merilehto. We drew 10th out of 12. This means that we will skate fourth in the second group tomorrow, which we are very pleased with. We cannot wait for the competition to begin, and we want to wish all of the teams the best of luck.
