Greetings from Austria! Haydenettes and Lexettes arrived in Salzburg Thursday afternoon, just in time to go to unofficial practice. Our practices were held at the official rink in Salzburg, so it was a short trip and nice to get to skate on the official surface before the competition started. After practice on Thursday, we were all anxious to check in to our hotel, have dinner and relax. We had a Team USA meeting Thursday night before bed with our team leaders and the Starlights, our fellow USA teammates.
Friday morning we were up early and headed to practice at an unofficial rink a little over an hour away in Gmunden. Haydenettes and Lexettes skated for an hour each, working on sections of both the short and long programs. After practice there was time to go sightseeing and do a little shopping. Our first stop was
the Cathedral featured in the Sound of Music, and then we headed back to Salzburg. We really enjoyed our time walking around the city, the architecture is beautiful and we got to experience the beginning of Mozart Week. Mozart Week features an international music festival where groups from several different countries come to Salzburg to play their music and celebrate together. Back at the hotel Friday before dinner, we watched video from the morning practices, caught up on homework and played some intense games of Catch Phrase. The draw was held Friday night, Haydenettes drew 1st to skate and Lexettes drew 9th. Excited for the competition to begin, we had dinner and headed to bed to be ready to Official Practice in the morning.
Saturday morning, Lexettes headed to the rink early to warm-up for their official, Haydenettes followed shortly after to watch part of their practice before warming-up. Haydenettes practice was not the best, but we felt confident that we could come back and perform with fire and grace for the competition. After a quick video review, both teams had time to rest of prepare for the Short Program competition. Lexettes skated with speed and personality, with one small fall, they recovered quickly and had an overall strong skate. Haydenettes opened the Sr. Competition with a strong and energetic Short Program. The Starlights, our Team USA teammates competed later in the Sr. division. We enjoyed spending time in the stands with Miami Jr, watching the other teams and cheering on the final USA team of the evening. It’s been a very busy week so far, but we are psyched for tonight’s competition! Stay tuned!
