We have been having the best time exploring beautiful Rouen, and enjoying the amazing food and shopping that France has to offer. After a very productive practice on Thursday morning, we had the whole day to relax, recharge, and get into the right mindset for the day we have all been waiting for!
When the morning of the short competition came around, we started it off right with an incredible hotel breakfast, complete with crepes and croissants to fuel the day ahead. We warmed up our program in the off-ice area, trying to channel our inner MJ. We had a few bobbles in our official practice, and after some constructive feedback from our coaches, we were ready to head back to the hotel and add the finishing touches to our hair and makeup, and get pumped for our first performance!
On the bus to the rink, we sang ‘Defying Gravity’, a long-standing Skyliners tradition, and felt so excited to represent our country and really perform to the judges and audience. We took the ice and the U.S. cheering section went so wild, we could barely hear the call to set our opening positions!
Getting off the ice, we were all ecstatic with the performance we put out and the reaction from the crowd, even though it wasn’t our best skate from a technical standpoint. Sitting in 4th after the short competition, we felt both proud and motivated to give it our all the next day in our long program!
Au revoir for now!
