Wow, what an exciting two days of competition for us! French Cup was such a learning experience. We put out two great skates, that we are very proud of, but we also learned a lot about where we want to grow as a team. Watching the competition, especially the senior free, was really a life changing experience for all the girls on our team!
We began the day of the short with an official practice around 9:00AM. We skated more or less two solid programs, but we had a few issues that we knew we had to fix going into the competition. We went back to the hotel, where we had a chance to look at the video of our official practice that our coach, Pam, had taken. When we arrived at the rink that afternoon, it was all business. We knew how we wanted to skate, and we were determined to deliver a short we would be proud of. We skated a great short; we could hear the cheers of our team leaders, coaches, and teammates, as we completed each element and it motivated us to push a bit harder. We got off the ice ecstatic with our skate, and were greeted by high fives and congratulations from our coaches and team leaders. We spent the rest of the evening watching the senior short program, which motivated us for our long program the next day. Our captain and our coach also headed to the draw with our team leaders. We drew 6th, which was second in the second group, and set us up for an 8:15AM official practice. We went to sleep that night content, and excited to give it our all in the long.
We woke up around 5:30AM the next day and had a quick snack before leaving for our long official practice. Once we got to the rink, we had a long off ice which really allowed us to touch on some key details. Our official felt strong and powerful, yet we knew we had things to focus on during the competition. Going into the competition, we were excited to perform our beautiful program to the large and packed audience at French Cup. Hearing the crowd roar as we were announced “Representing the United States of America” gave everyone chills, and reminded us of why we love this sport. We skated a clean program and we’re excited with how it turned out. Our coaches were very happy with what we put out on the ice and we can’t wait to do it again this weekend.
We are ecstatic to compete at the qualifier, and wish all other teams the best of luck!
