East coast teams competed this weekend at the 2015 Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships in Lake Placid.
The competition began Friday morning with open juvenile, pre juvenile and preliminary qualifying rounds. Twenty nine open juvenile teams competed in three qualifying round flights with the top four in each progressing to final rounds. From group A, DC Edge, National Blades, Nor’easters and Mirror Images Purple progressed to final round. CNY Blizzard Blue, Munchkins, Wallace Synergy, Precisely Right and Steel City Blades came from group B and CNY Blizzard Green, Synchro Stars, Shadows and Team Reflections were the top four in group C.
Two groups of pre juvenile teams competed for spots in final round. From group A, Skyliners, Colonials, National Blades, DC Edge Red and Shimmers moved onto final round. Shooting Stars, Starcatchers, Team Esprit, Syncrhoettes and DC Edge were the top five in group B. There were also two groups of preliminary teams looking to catch the top spots and a skate in the final round. From group A, the top five were Shooting Stars, DC Edge Red, Skyliners, Richmond Synchro and Excel Crystals. These teams were joined in the final round by DC Edge Blue, Synchroettes, Team Ashburn, Icing on the Cape and Team Image.
Final rounds were held on Saturday and the competition was fierce. The open juvenile title went to DC Edge with CNY Blizzard Green, Shadows and Nor’easters rounding out the top four. Shooting Stars took home the pre juvenile title. They were followed by Skyliners, Colonials and National Blades. DC Edge Blue claimed the preliminary title with Skyliners, Shooting Stars and Richmond Synchro taking home the other medals.
Eleven teams competed in the juvenile division but it was Skyliners who claimed the top spot. They will be joined at Nationals by Mini Mates, Synchroettes, DC Edge and Team Delaware.
The masters title went to DC Edge with Esprit de Coprs, Essex Blades and Gotham City Synchro rounding out the field of medalists. All six teams that skated this weekend will compete at nationals.
Sixteen teams competed in intermediate this year, with the top four teams earning a trip to nationals. With a score of 55.39, DC Edge earned the top spot. They were followed by Skyliners who earned 52.49. Less than a point separated the third and forth place teams Team Delaware and Star Mates, who scored 50.95 and 50.41 respectively.
More than ten points separated novice champions Ice Mates (70.35) from the silver medalists, Skyliners (59.04). Scoring 52.15 DC Edge claimed the bronze and 51.60 was enough to give Synchroettes the pewter. They will be joined at nationals by fifth place team, Team Delaware (50.61).
The University of Delaware blew the competition away in the collegiate division with a score of 84.31, nearly fourteen points above silver medalists Metroettes, who scored 71.08. 64.68 was enough to give Team Excel the bronze and University of New Hampshire earned the pewter with 64.27. These teams will be joined at nationals by The University of Maryland Terrapins (58.26) and The University of Massachusetts (57.96)
Wrapping up a successful weekend, DC Edge skated away with the adult title after scoring 60.28. They were followed by Esprit de Corps who scored 58.25. With a score of 52.36 The Colonials earned the bronze medal. Team Delaware placed fourth after scoring 48.46. All seven adult teams that competed this weekend will move on to nationals.
Synchroettes won the junior division after posting a total score of 122.22 (SP 46.18, FS 76.04). A total score of 109.97 (SP 41.60, FS 68.37) put Team Delaware in second.
Skyliners skated away with the senior title after scoring 150.63 (SP 44.10, FS 106.53). They were followed by Team Excel who posted a total score of 115.46 (SP 38.69, FS 76.77).
