History: The UWFSC was formed in 1999 by a group of twenty skaters headed by Kristen Bednar and Jessica Wisner. The initial goal of the club was to create a Collegiate Level Synchronized Skating Team and become a recognized Club in the Recreational Sports division of the Univeristy of Wisconsin. The 2006-2007 season marked the UWSST’s first appearance at Nationals with a 5th place finish. For the 2008-2009 Season, the club had grown to a large enough size to harbor two teams. An Open Collegiate team and a Senior were formed along with an Individual team of five competitiors for the first time. The 2009-2010 Season was a new beginning for the club. Jenny McMahon, Coach of the Fond du Lac Blades, became the head coach. After a brief season in the Senior division, the second team opted to return to the Collegiate division making three strong teams representing the University: Open Collegiate Synchronized Skating, Collegiate Synchronized Skating, and an Individual team cosisting of ten members. The 2010 season ended with a 6th place finish at Nationals for the Collegiate Team, A first place finish at Eau Claire for the Open Collegiate Team, and a 3rd place finish in our section and an appearance at Nationals for the first time for the Individual Team. Last year’s season was a huge time of growth and achievement for the club. The Collegiate team had their best skate of the season at the Midwestern Championships, where they once again advanced to Nationals. The Open Collegiate team finished out their season strong with a podium-finish at the Midwestern Championships, beating out the longstanding champions, Miami University. The Individual Team took the gold at the Midwestern Championships, where they advanced to Nationals for the second consecutive season. The UW Figure Skating Club is an entirely student run organization: finances, recruitment, membership, paperwork, on-ice and off-ice practices, fundraising, and competition details are all organized and implemented by students. The coaching staff volunteers their time and are greatly appreciated for the time and energy they put forth.
