Day 3: Friday
Today was filled with many adventures, starting at the rink and ending with a Team USA athlete dinner. After a very successful second unofficial practice, we took the Metro into Milan to explore for a few hours. As soon as we stepped out into the streets, the Duomo of Milan took our breath away. Learning from an English speaking tour guide about such an important part of Italian culture was fascinating. After getting a taste of Milan’s history, we walked to all of the beautiful shops and even took home some souvenirs.
After a fun-filled day in the city, it was time for the draw. I was lucky enough to be one of the skaters in attendance, along with 4 other teammates. After patiently waiting our turn to choose our skate order, the captains made the walk to the stage, where they drew 7th out of the 14 teams.
The day ended with a Team USA athlete and coach dinner in the hotel. It was a unique treat to be able to sit and get to know other members of Team USA in a relaxed setting, away from the pressures of the competition rink.
Tomorrow we begin the competition and get to see what competing on the international stage really means and feels like. Stay tuned…
